What is Instagram analytics?

Instagram analytics is an inbuilt tool to view all of your Instagram account’s metrics. It is a free analytics tool available for every Instagram business page that measures data, including profile visits, website clicks, reach, and impressions. The tool also collects data about your target audience’s most active hours, location, age, and gender.

Why is Instagram analytics of concern?

If you do not start Instagram Analytics with an understanding of what matters, you are looking at a blank spreadsheet. Posting on Instagram may be a waste of time and resources if you don’t know the analytics of your page.

Instagram analytics assist marketers in three key areas: Who is engaging, what kind of content is engaging and what products are getting the most engagement within that content. If you take all of these factors into account, you’ll be able to better manage and enhance your entire business strategy.

You may miss these crucial insights and possibilities if you do not look at the analytics on a frequent basis. For example, you may be posting too often or irregularly or targeting the incorrect audience. You may be posting during non-optimal hours and ignoring comments or mentions that may lead to future collaborations.

The benefits of using Instagram analytics

By using Instagram analytics:

  • You can identify the ideal time to post on Instagram.
  • You can convert people from followers to customers.
  • You will be able to target the correct audience.
  • You will be able to attract traffic to your website.
  • You can develop your company’s online visibility.
  • You will be able to post the best content.
  • You can recognize trends and adjust your social media strategy accordingly.
  • You can discover historical and seasonal trends and get long-term insights into community building.
  • You can combine historical and short-term data to alter your content strategy depending on what is now working and what has previously worked effectively for you.

How to access Instagram analytics?

You can access Instagram analytics only if you have a business account on Instagram. If you have only recently switched to a business profile, Instagram Insights may not currently have the data for you. You can view insights only for last week. Therefore, it’s critical to review and analyze this data on a regular basis to determine how your content is performing.

There are two ways to access Instagram analytics.

  • You can directly access Instagram analytics by clicking on the “Insights” on your Instagram profile page.
  • Click on the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of your Instagram profile page. Then navigate to the “Insights” option.

The various metrics tabs in Instagram Insights

As soon as you open Instagram analytics, you will see three tabs: content, activity, and audience.

Content

The first tab to display is your week’s content. This includes your feed posts, stories, and promotions. They are arranged by the number of views, allowing you to quickly identify which recent content has had the most reach. You may narrow your emphasis to one form of material and filter interaction by comments, impressions, profile visits, etc.

You can also use a time filter to view engagement from the previous week to the last two years. Post engagement is essential since it indicates what content is capturing your audience’s attention, allowing you to fine-tune your strategy. The Content tab contains a wealth of helpful information that you may use and refer to in the future while posting.

Activity

You can see information regarding your account’s interactions and discovery in the Activity tab.

In the Interactions tab, you can see the actions done from your account within a given week. It informs you what day of the week has the greatest engagement and how many interactions have been recorded. It includes the number of profile visits and the number of times the email and website link on your profile was clicked. If the interactions are increasing, then your strategy is good, and if not, you have to modify your strategy.

The Discovery tab tells you about how many people saw your content in a specific period and how they discovered it. It further included Reach and Impressions. Reach informs you about the number of Instagram accounts that have viewed your posts. Whereas, Impressions informs you about the total number of times your posts have been viewed. These figures give you a pretty good idea of how well your content is performing.

Audience

The last tab, which is the Audience tab, gives you information about the audience of your account. This information includes the top locations of your audience by city and country, age range, gender, and activity time every day.

The information about your top audience’s location is critical when organizing marketing campaigns. Understanding your audience’s age and gender will allow you to target them more precisely. You will know which days of the week are ideal for posting on Instagram. You can be certain that you are posting at a moment when your audience is online.

Individual post analytics

You can also view the performance analytics of each individual post. Navigate to the post whose analytics you want to view and click on “View Insights” just below the post. You will be able to dive even deeper into the performance of the post.

The Interactions tab shows how many actions were performed from your posts, such as profile views and website and email clicks. You can see how many likes, comments, saves, and shares the post received. The Discovery tab shows how many accounts the post reached, followers gained from that post, and where the post received the most impressions.

Instagram Stories analytics

You can collect data and performance about your Instagram Stories as well. Instagram Stories is a great method of marketing if your target audience is in a relatively younger age group. You can access data on current stories as well as historical data from stories published before 24 hours.

To get analytics about an active Story, just tap on it and either swipe up or press “Seen by” in the bottom left corner. Click the eye icon to find out who saw a certain Story on your account. This will provide a list of every Instagram user that watched the Story.

To review the actions taken from a specific Story, select the chart symbol to the left of the eye icon. You can check how many shares and responses your Story received and how many people swiped up to visit the URL. You can also see how many people visited your profile due to the Story and how many sticker taps happened.

In the Discovery section, you can see the number of views and follows from the Story. You can also see how many people clicked back, forward, clicked to view your next Story, and exited your Story. These figures reflect how interesting your Stories are.

To view historical information about your Stories, visit “Insights” from your profile page by clicking on the three horizontal lines. Then, navigate past the “Feed Posts” section to the “Stories” section. You can see the number of impressions your Story earned during the last two weeks in this section. To check how a certain Story performed, tap on it and then swipe up to view more detailed statistics.

Instagram Reels analytics

Instagram Reels and its analytics are the latest addition to the various methods of marketing through Instagram. You can access them by opening the Instagram Insights menu or selecting a specific Reel, and pressing the three dots icon.

The analytics include the number of likes, comments, shares, and saves the Reel has received. It also includes the number of times the Reel has been played and accounts reached using that Reel.

IGTV analytics

You can view the IGTV analytics the same way you do for other Instagram Insights. The IGTV analytics include the number of views, likes, comments, percentage of completed views, the point at which viewers quit the video. It also includes the average percentage of video watched, reach of the video, and saves.

Instagram Live analytics

You can view the analytics of your Instagram Lives from the Instagram Insights section. You can view the total number of accounts reached, as well as the peak concurrent viewers, comments, and shares.

Product tags analytics

Instagram Product tags allow businesses to make their products shopping ready by tagging them on their posts and Stories. You can also check how many clicks your products have received under the insights for the post or Story in which they were tagged.

Conclusion – Use Instagram analytics wisely

We hope that we were able to give you a thorough guide on Instagram analytics. You should now have a better grasp of Instagram analytics and how to assess your profile. We can observe that Instagram users have access to a wealth of analytics data.

It can be difficult to know where to begin when looking at all of the data and attempting to make sense of it. Attempting to deal with all of them may not be the best use of your time. An efficient way is having a clear vision of your business’s goals and the required Instagram metrics for that purpose.
